The Advancing and Measuring Sustainable Consumption and Production for a Low-Carbon Economy in Middle-Income and Newly Industrialized Countries (Advance SCP) project is one of the conveners of the Kalikasan Green Productivity, Green Purchasing Towards Green Philippines (KGP3) Expo Conference 2017. KGP3 2017 aims to bring together businesses, government agencies, environmental advocates, and practitioners and serve as a platform to discuss current trends and open opportunities for partnership. This biennial advocacy event will highlight three themes: Bamboo and Wood Industry for Sustainable Forestry, SCP on Green Public Procurement and Ecolabelling, and finally, Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Heritage. The event, which will be held on 21-23 September 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, was formally launched last 24 March 2017. The launching kicks off a series of pre-event activities designed for promotion and exhibition.
The highlight of the launch was the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between 14 public and private organizations, among them DENR, DTI, DOST, DOT, Quezon City LGU, SM Supermalls, Ayala Land, Philippine Green Building Council, Philippine Business for the Environment, Foreign Chamber Council of the Philippines, the Philippine Wood Producers Association, and the Advance SCP project. They will form the Conveners’ Committee which will lead the promotion of the event, and act as advisors and advocacy icons. The event was supported and endorsed by Sen. Koko Pimentel. In his key note speech, he emphasized that “addressing climate change is a central overriding concern of global actions for sustainability. The Philippines, in its commitment to the Paris Treaty for Climate Change, needs to shape its development agenda for the promotion of sustainable consumption and production.”
The event is organized by the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc (PCEPSDI), the administrator of the National Ecolabelling Programme Green Choice Philippines. Aside from the KGP3 Conference, PCEPSDI is also in partnership with the Advance SCP project in developing climate-relevant criteria for ecolabel and Green Public Procurement priority products.
