RAC NAMA Fund attends Asia Clean Energy Forum 2018, supporting Thai green policy and technology
A representative from the Project Fund Manager (PFM) team of the RAC NAMA Fund and Ms. Denise Andres, adviser with the GIZ programme Proklima, attended a Deep Dive Workshop on June 5 on the topic “Promoting Efficient, Clean Cooling through Technology and Policy Innovation” as part of the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) 2018.
The PFM delegate, from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), was invited to speak along with Ms. Andres during the presentation titled “Combining energy efficiency and climate action – RAC NAMA Thailand”. After presenting and updating information on the implementation and functions of the RAC NAMA Fund, Ms. Andres briefly introduced the NAMA project and explained how a NAMA could contribute to policy and technical innovations in Thailand, thereby promoting a climate-friendly and energy-efficient Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector through the Thailand Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (Thailand RAC NAMA) project. The EGAT representative then explained the financial component of the project under the RAC NAMA Fund. Other speakers in the session included representatives from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy CEPT University, India, and the Ozone Secretariat of United Nations (UN) Environment. The presentations were followed by a discussion on effective policy measure innovations to enable improved buildings and cooling equipment.
The workshop, jointly organised by International Energy Agency (IEA), GIZ and Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program (K-CEP), was one of the ACEF 2018 that focused on energy-efficient and clean cooling as well as the relevant social and economic benefits. Designed as a platform for international discussions on market developments and updates on efficiency and clean cooling, the workshop also aimed to engage participants in priorities and next steps. It presented a great opportunity for EGAT, as the national fund recipient and project fund manager, to enhance networking opportunities and engage in discussions with attendees from governments, the private sector, academia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The ACEF 2018 held from 4-8 June 2018 at the Headquarters of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines, was attended by more than 500 practitioners and implementers in the energy sector. This year, it is focused on how innovation can accelerate energy system development. As one of the leading clean energy events in the Asia and Pacific region, it acts as a platform for participants to identify, discuss and address key clean energy challenges in the region. The conference is jointly organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA).
