Recently, GIZ-EcosWat has a great pleasure to welcome GIZ CEO, Mrs. Cornelia Richter and GIZ Country Director, Thailand, Mr. Stefan Helming, at our project pilot stie: Tha Di sub-river basin, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province (NST).
The delegation was warmly and friendly welcomed by representative from Walailak University, Living Weir Network and the local community. We visited the on-progress living weir located in NST city (with supports from Thai Royal Army) and learnt how the community adapted and cooperated to tackle flood and drought situations.
Furthermore, we visited the living weirs at rural areas of NST to learn the benefits and impacts of the living weirs in the water sector and local way of life. The living weirs represented the fishery habitats as well as the change of water behavior.
Later on, the represenatative from Walailak University showed the delegation of the integration of drone into the water sector. He applied his experiences gained from the training cause provided by GIZ-EcosWat to collect the data and generate the 3D Model. We are very pleased to observe the progress and developments of our colleagues.
The trip ended with the visit to learn the diversified farm located at Khao Mehn resort. Khun Rewat, the resort owner and an activist explained how he changed his mindset from monoculture (rubber planntations) towards the diversified farm. His reforestration approach to reserve the upstream forest while managing the eco-tourism is valuable for the next generation. His knowledge to benefit from ecosystem services in a sustainable ways very impressed the delegation.
Also, our sincere gratitude towards Tung Song Mayor to also share his knowledge and experience on water management approach.
