Since GIZ has been implemented project “Water and Wastewater Companies for Climate Mitigation (WaCCliM)” with Wastewater Management Authority (WMA) in the last year. Together with WMA, we selected a pilot wastewater treatment plant in Chiang Mai Wastewater Treatment Plant and we found that data collection and quality is very important for this project. Additionally, WMA want to multiply the implementation of this project to all WMA’s wastewater treatment plants.
Due to these reasons, the training workshop on “Data Collection of Wastewater Utilities for Greenhouse Gas Calculation” was organized for WMA’s WWTP managers and engineers during 10 – 12 March 2015 at The Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. This training was leading by Catarina Silva, baseline expert from IWA.
During the training workshop, 31 participants from WMA head office and 17 WWTPs and one participant from Chiang Mai Municipality had an opportunity to learning and practicing on understanding greenhouse gas in wastewater treatment process and how to measure this emission. In the last day, they also had a chance to visit Chiang Mai wastewater treatment plant which was selected as a project’s pilot plant.
The training was successful beyond an expectation. Most participants had shown interests in the topic and highly participate during the training which can be seen from one comment from participant “This training provide me a new experience in this topic and it is very benefit our working”. Consequently, this is a very successful step for WaCCliM project now and for reaching out the project to meet the project goal in the future.
